Magickal Rituals
- The Kabbalistic Cross: This ritual is a technique for centring oneself and is often used at the beginning of other rituals. It involves a series of gestures and the vibration of Hebrew words and phrases while visualising a light descending and filling the body. The Kabbalistic Cross is considered an important technique of magick and is based on traditional Judeo-Christian texts. The complete Hebrew text is translated as “Thou art the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for ever. Amen.”
- Projecting the Lesser Circle: This ritual involves using your body as an altar and projecting a circle on the astral plane. This circle is a template for an astral circle of any size or shape that can be modified by the power of will. The ritual is done while standing in the centre and facing the east.
- Projecting the Greater Circle: This ritual is similar to projecting the lesser circle but is often done by walking around an altar in a clockwise direction to establish the dimension of the astral circle. The circle always exists on the astral level, and any physical circle is merely a guide. The altar may also be placed in a specific quarter of the temple in order to work from the centre of an open floor.
- Invoking the Guardians of the Quarters: This ritual involves invoking the four archangels who rule the four quarters of the material world – Raphael, Michael, Gabriel, and Auriel. This is done through the use of specific postures, visualisations, and the vibration of names of power and divine names. The purpose of this ritual is to attract and concentrate the elemental powers of the four quarters.
- Projecting the Pentagram: This ritual involves the drawing of pentagrams in the air to invoke or banish the forces of the elements, each pentagram having a specific direction and starting point depending on the element. There are two pentagrams of Spirit, as well as one each for the lower four elements, and each can be invoked or banished. The pentagrams are drawn with a specific technique used in the Golden Dawn. The ritual is designed to control the elemental forces and is a key technique in Western ceremonial magick.
- Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram: This ritual combines the Kabbalistic Cross with the projection of elemental pentagrams to invoke forces and spirits. It begins facing east and involves walking in a circle, tracing pentagrams at each of the four cardinal directions, and vibrating divine names. The purpose of the ritual is to attract occult forces and activate latent magickal abilities. The ritual also invokes the archangels, but in their lower, more material guise.
- Ritual of the Rose Cross: This ritual involves the creation of an interlocking framework of circle-crosses with lines of light and the invocation of LVX to purify a space and provide protection. It involves moving around a space while visualising a pattern and vibrating Hebrew words, and is a practice for elevating the spirit. The lines and crosses form a protective barrier, while the LVX formula opens it to higher influences and communications.
- Creating a Vortex: This ritual involves the projection of a spiral of energy that can concentrate or release occult energy, depending on the direction of rotation. A clockwise inward spiral attracts the light and spiritual energies, while a counterclockwise inward spiral attracts the compound physical energies of the earth element. The spiral can be visualised as light or a black whirlpool, and it concentrates spiritual or physical energies.
- Invoking the Light: This ritual involves a combination of the Kabbalistic Cross, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, and circumambulation to draw down the light, with the purpose of purifying a space and connecting with spiritual forces. It also includes the establishment of the four guardian angels and the adoration of the light. The ritual is used to bring down divine energy into the ritual space and may also be used as a framework for other rituals.
- Cleansing Prayer: This prayer is used to purify oneself or objects before ritual work. It involves visualising a beam of water from a star falling over and penetrating the person or object, and can be used as a preliminary to other ritual work, and is often followed by the Kabbalistic Cross. The prayer is extracted from Psalms 51.
- Cleansing a Space: This ritual is designed to purify a space by combining the elements of air, fire, water, and earth and drawing down spiritual light. It includes the establishment of a circle and a vortex, the declaration of intention, and the use of the Sign of the Enterer while vibrating Hebrew letters. The ritual involves using incense, candles, water, and salt, and culminates in a declaration of fulfilment and the absorption of the circle.
- Supreme Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram: This ritual involves the projection of four elemental pentagrams and four pentagrams of spirit and is more complex than the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram. It uses specific gestures from the grades of the Golden Dawn and is designed to invoke the higher elemental energies of the archangels, and can also be transformed into the Supreme Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. The ritual is often done with Enochian words. The ritual also includes the absorption of the circle through a counterclockwise walk.
- Evoking Into the Triangle: This ritual involves the evocation of a spirit into a triangle of art using a circle, a triangle formed by coins, and visualisation. The ritual includes a declaration of intention, and specific gestures and words of power, to establish communication with the spirit. The purpose of this ritual is to call forth a spirit into a designated space, and then direct it to perform a specific task.
